By KETRA KALUNGA

PROTECT civils servants by ensuring that you control the violent cadres, the Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolutions of Dispute (SACCORD) has urged political parties.

And SACCORD has urged the ruling party to take a leading role in controlling the violent cadres so that peace continues to prevail in the country.

SACCORD executive director, Boniface Cheembe implored political parties to control their cadres by ensuring that they desist from engaging in acts of violence.

He said in a statement that SACCORD is disappointed with reports of violence involving the UPND and PF cadres in Sokontwe ward in Milenge district during the local government by-election.

Mr. Cheembe urged political parties to take an active role in detesting any form of violent communication which provokes violence among party parties.

‘’ The ruling party must take a lead in ensuring that such peace prevails to avoid   further decline in the levels of peacefulness as a country,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, SACCORD has congratulated UPND for winning the Sokontwe ward by-election in Luapula Liangati ward by-election in Western Province.

Mr. Cheembe further said SACCORD also commends the opposition political parties for enriching the country’s democracy through their participation in the by-elections.

He said the by-elections were generally conducted in a peaceful environment with the Public Order Act (POA) being administered in the interest of all the political players.
