Lubinda clears air – PF presidential contenders free to contest

By GIDEON NYENDWA

THE Patriotic Front constitution says that whoever qualifies under the republican constitution to stand as republican president also qualifies to vie for the presidency of the party, PF acting president, Given Lubinda, has said.

Mr Lubinda also said that the constitution of the party does not deter any members from contesting for the presidency. He said that there was no discrimination whatsoever to prevent anyone from contesting the presidency of the party provided that they meet the qualification that were laid down.

And Mr Lubinda has said the PF will have a refined constitution after the next ordinary conference because the forthcoming extraordinary conference in June has only one agenda item that is electing the president of the party.

Mr Lubinda said the process of refining the party constitution started more than five years ago and he was hopeful that it would have a refined constitution after the next ordinary general conference.

Mr Lubinda also clarified that the June extraordinary general conference would only have one agenda item which was electing the president of the party and nothing else.

He said making changes to the PF constitution was an ongoing process which started some years ago and it was not as a result of the rebranding.

Mr Lubinda said that any other business like amending the party constitution will be handled in the ordinary general conference.

He said that amending the constitution even at party level was a process and it must be handled carefully without rushing.
