Lusaka police nab fake doctor

BY GIDEON NYENDWA

Police in Lusaka have arrested Natasha Nyimbili for impersonating a medical doctor and obtaining money by false pretence.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said that Ms Nyimbili, aged 30, was arrested for obtaining about K15, 962 by false pretence and impersanting as a medical doctor.

Mr Hamoonga said that the incident happened between January 3 and February 4, 2022 at the Presidential Housing Initiative area of Chainama in Lusaka.

He said that this was in a case in which a parent had reported the defilement of her 15-year-old daughter who was being treated by the suspect at home who was purporting to be a medical doctor.

Mr Hamoonga said that the mother started noticing something unusual in the way the medical doctor was demanding money from the victim’s family.

He said that the family were paying money to the fake doctor that could amount to K15, 962 which they were sending to Ms Nyimbili via mobile money.

Mr Hamoonga said girl’s mother became suspicious when the purported “doctor” failed to put a cannula on the child and instead advised that she drinks the intravenous fluid.

He said that the suspect was claiming to be a third-year medical student from a local university.

Mr Hamoonga said that the suspect was in police custody and would appear in court soon.
