Ultimate paid Nchito & Nchito U$41, 000

By CHARLES MUSONDA

Ultimate Insurance Company Limited (UICL) paid Nchito Nchito US$41, 000 without my knowledge or authorisation as owner of the company, a witness has testified.

Ms Felicitas Chibamba Kabwe told the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court yesterday that at no point was Nchito & Nchito Advocates appointed as lawyers for UICL but were paid in two instalments – US$26, 000 and US$15, 000.

Ms. Kabwe said this when she testified in a case Marshlands Consortium directors Tobias Milambo, a chartered insurer of Woodlands, Nachi Musonda of Chongwe, and Richard Lubemba, of Chalala are alleged to have forged documents purporting to show that they had been appointed as directors at Ultimate Insurance when in fact not.

It is also alleged that between the same dates, Milambo, Musonda, Lubemba and Marshlands Consortium Limited obtained goods by false pretences and stole more than US$41, 000 belonging to Ultimate.

Ms. Kabwe said in one of the meetings at Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA) she discovered that her signature she did not sign was signed against her name on the letter introducing the board of directors who were appointed without a shareholders’ meeting.

Ms. Kabwe said after Milambo was added to panel B of bank signatories, the US$41, 000 paid to Nchito and Nchito Advocates was among several payments made without  her knowledge and authority as company owner; adding that Nachi Musonda’s wife Bwalya was paid K15, 000 for legal services when she was never appointed to act for UICL.

Trial continues on March 9, 2022.
