When will you fix country’s financial ills, upnd asked

THE new dawn administration has been challenged to state when they will resolve the country’s financial problems as promised during the 2021 general election campaign.

This followed a question in Parliament by Mfuwe Member of Parliament, Maureen Mabonga to Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Garry Nkombo on why the rehabilitation of the Chiundaponde – Muwele road has stalled.

Chama South Member of Parliament, Davison Mung`andu said the UPND was elected on the premise that they were going to resolve the financial challenges and therefore the government should inform the citizens when this will be done.

“The Zambians elected UPND to govern  because they promised that they were going to resolve the country’s financial challenges. My question is, can the government state when this will be done so that the people can know when the stalled road projects will be completed to facilitate movement of goods and services,” he said.

But Mr Nkombo said the UPND government has embarked on a programme of prudent management of resources by not contracting any more debt until the current one is attended to.

He said the PF government left a huge debt which they failed to service.

Mr Nkombo also accused the PF government of using the Ministry of Local Government to siphon money from the treasury for their personal good.

Mr Nkombo said the new government is doing a full audit to determine the extent of the damage caused to the country’s economy by those in the former regime.

“The new government is doing a full audit to determine the extent of the damage caused to the country’s economy by those who were superintending over the affairs of the country.”
