ECL’s dead friend to be exhumed

…as Police believe he could still be alive and want a DNA test to prove he is dead

By NATION REPORTER

THE Police have obtained an order to exhume the remains of former Republican President Edgar Lungu’s associate Suzyo Nyika who died last year in Lundazi.

According to family members, Mr Nyika died in Lundazi where his remains were buried but   police suspect that he is still alive and his death was just used as a diversion as he was suspected to be living in South Africa.

Others believe that dollars may have been buried in the grave purportedly to be his.

Suzyo Nyika’s wife told the Nation that she was distressed by the development and could not comment on the matter and needed time to understand what was going on.

According to a source close to the family, the exhumation was supposed to take place today where the police and even lawyers would be present to witness the process.

“The police suspect that our relative is still alive and that they want to conduct a DNA test to confirm that he is the one buried in Lundazi,”  the source  said.

And Zambia Police spokesperson Rae Haamonga said he would only issue an official statement today as he had not received any details. He however said exhumations were normal in circumstances where an individual died in suspicious circumstances.

Mr Haamonga said such things happened on a daily basis and that there was nothing sinister about the trend.

“What I can just say is that there is nothing sinister about an exhumation and indeed if that is the case then they just want to determine what could have caused his death,” Mr Haamonga said.
