Protect dpp, Mwamba asks hh

By SILUMESI MALUMO

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema should speak out and stop lower ranked UPND officials from disrespecting the office the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Zambia’s former Ambassador to Ethiopia Emmanuel Mwamba has said.

Mr Mwamba said the President cannot keep quiet, allow lower ranked officials to undermine the constitutional office.

He said in an interview that Mr Hichilema promise his government will govern under the rule of law, but what is happing is very different.

He said it is embarrassing that even people who has no knowledge about the role of the DPP can start issuing threats.

He said it is prudent that President Hichilema speaks out instead of remaining silent when the rule of law is under threat.

Mr Mwamba said it is also good to finally see the Law Association of Zambia speak up against the lawlessness and mob justice being peddled by the UPND leaders and cadres against the DPP.

“We hope institutions like ZNBC will stop participating in this lawlessness and lynch mob unleashed against a constitutional office.

“My call will be to President Hichilema as leader of both the country and UPND to call his lower-ranked officials to respect the rule of law as constitutional mechanisms exist to deal with suspected commission of infringements in the office of the DPP,” Mr Mwamba said.

He said if the President continue to be mute, the office will continue receiving unnecessary attacks.

“Let him show us that his government respects the rule of law,” Mr Mwamba said.
