‘Stop maligning ECL with cheap propaganda’

By NATION REPORTER

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema should not use the Bemba idiom ‘uubomba mwibala alya mwibala’ to malign his predecessor to gain political mileage, New Congress Party (NCP) President, Peter Chanda, has advised.

Mr Chanda said on several occasions President Hichilema has used the idiom to malign Mr Lungu that he was allowing his cabinet to take advantage of their positions and steal public resources when in fact not.

He said the idiom actually meant that people in authority needed to stick to their lane and enjoy what was due to them and not venturing in stealing the seed which made their daily livelihood.

Mr Chanda said the president was not being sincere and was being unfair to his colleague because what he was saying was not in context.

“It’s either the head of State does not understand the idiom or maybe he just wants to humiliate and attack his predecessor with the `uubomba mwi bala’ idiom,” he said.

He said that he needed to ask people from the north the true meaning of the statement rather than scandalise his colleague the way he was constantly referring to the idiom.

Mr Chanda said that the head of State was showing too much bitterness and that he needed to emulate the likes of South Africa’s Nelson Mandela who despite being incarcerated for 27 years forgave everyone and forged to propel the country to greater heights.

He said what the president needed to do was to focus on ensuring that he fulfilled the promises he made when he was in opposition like reducing the rising cost of living.
