Mumba should step aside, MMD members insist

By KETRA KALUNGA

Nevers Mumba should step aside as party President and let the MMD decide its fate through an all-inclusive national convention, member, Haward Kunda has said.

MMD vice president, Reuben Samboh has insisted that Dr. Mumba has another five years in office because his leadership was renewed by the National executive Committee (NEC) in 2021 at a convention.

But Mr. Kunda who is former MMD Member of Parliament for Muchinga said Dr. Mumba should listen to the party membership demands and step aside to allow for a convention because he has served for two terms.

He   challenged Dr. Mumba to stand by the morality and integrity he constantly talks about and uphold the party constitution which clearly states that a president would only serve for 10 years which is a complete two terms.

Mr. Kunda said demands that Dr. Mumba leave  office come  without explanation because having been elected party President on May 5, 2012, his tenure of office comes to an end on May 25, 2022 in line with the party constitution.

“Dr. Mumba should step aside and call for a convention because the members are resolved so he should listen and let the MMD elect a new crop of leaders,” he said.

He alleged that Dr. Mumba has made the MMD go to sleep with his kind of leadership which he said lacked integrity.

Mr. Kunda adding that Dr. Mumba’s administration has continued to abrogate the party constitution since they were voted as leaders and as members they would not stand by and let the illegality continue.

He said the party members have therefore vowed not to let the party that made history by producing three Republican Presidents vanish from the political scene.

He said the MMD has resolved to defend the party constitution and national democracy which it fought hard to achieve for the benefit of the country.
