Zesco poles deal cheers timber traders

By RUTH YAMBAYAMBA

Timber traders have applauded government for compelling Zesco to buy poles from local suppliers.

Timber producers Association of Zambia (TPAZ) president Charles Musenge Mr Musenge said the agreement between Copperbelt Forest Company (CFC) and Zesco was an indication that the country is capable of supplying poles to satisfy the market.

He added that the country’s Timber sector had been facing a lot of hiccups as it has been a politicized sector for some time now.

Mr Musenge noted that under the previous regime exportation of Timber was a preserve of foreigners, a situation he described as unfortunate.

Mr Musenge has since called on the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) to ensure Zambian timber traders are empowered to spearhead the exporting of timber.
