Malanji  attacked …as he handed over donated furniture at Bulangililo Clinic

By ROGERS KALERO

MORE than four people and some patients are nursing injuries, while a number of vehicles were damaged when UPND cadres ran amok and disrupted the handover of furniture to the Bulangililo Clinic by Kwacha Member of Parliament Joe Malanji who has also constructed the maternity ward using his own resources

The UPND cadres who were led by a youth called “Ringo” came in three Toyota Noah buses and started throwing all sorts of missiles which included bottles forcing patients and residents to scamper for safety.

Among the vehicles damaged was that of the Sister-in-Charge and others who had come to witness the handover of the furniture by Mr Malanji.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Sharon Cheelo Zulu’s phone went unanswered but Mr Malanji confirmed the incident and said furniture worth more than K150, 000 was destroyed when the UPND sent its cadres to cause confusion and disrupt the handover of the furniture to the clinic.

Mr Malanji said his desire to serve the interests of Bulangililo Township and Kwacha constituency will not be stopped by the inhuman and barbaric act by the UPND cadres.

He said it was ridiculous for the UPND to send its cadres to disrupt a well meant programme of improving people’s lives like the construction of a clinic and maternity clinics.

“Bulangililo has had no proper clinic since 1960 and now I decide to construct a clinic and hand over the furniture, UPND sends cadres to disrupt the handover and damage property. During that confusion, some patients and residents were injured.

“This behaviour is now sending a signal of what kind of leadership UPND has, and the people of Bulangililo must make a wise decision in case of a by-election. I will not be intimidated by this kind of nonsense, I will continue with my programmes to deliver my campaign promises” Mr Malanji said

Mr Malanji said he was confident that the police will act on the unruly conduct of the UPND cadres especially that it boasts of being a party which respects the rule of law.

He warned that the PF was also capable of defending itself by moving with guns if the ruling party does not stop its cadres from misbehaving.
