THE UPND Government should stop victimising people perceived as political opponents like James Ndambo whose vehicles were seized without proper explanation, Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) president Wright Musoma has charged.
Meanwhile Choma Municipal Council has proposed to pay back something to businessman James Ndambo by naming the Choma hospital road after him following the unprecedented charity work in the district.
Council assistant public relation manager Kameko Manda said the suggestion to name the road that leads to Choma General Hospital came in a report at the last full council meeting but was yet to be confirmed.
And Mr Musoma said that the DEC needs to give back the vehicles seized because they those vehicles were gifts to the recipients.
He demanded for the release of the vehicles and said it was uncalled for DEC to even grab cars that were won during the beauty pageant Miss My Home Town Choma a fortnight ago.
“Can you imagine that the cars that were linked to Mr Ndambo were seized because they felt intimidated by what he is doing for the people of Choma and the country at large,” he said.
Meanwhile former PF secretary general Davis Mwila said it was obvious that UPND was intimidated by Mr Ndambo and that was the reason they wanted to victimise and implicate him or those connected to him.
Mr Mwila said that it was no secret that the move to grab the vehicles was because they were not comfortable with what he was doing.
“It’s no secret that the UPND are unease with Mr Ndambo’s charity works and that is why they want to fix him by coming up with tramped up charges,” he said.
Ms. Manda said the proposal had to go back to the committee for the councilors to debate and a decision would be made at the next full council meeting after it passes through the committee stage.
She said the decision to rename the road had not been made yet because it was just a proposal that came in one of the reports and it was sent back to the relevant committees.
“A decision will be made at the next council meeting,” she said.
Mr Ndambo, a business tycoon who is also owner and Chief Executive Officer of Africa Union Holdings made a number of donations through his organisation My Home Town in Choma district.
He was currently rehabilitating the road leading to Choma General Hospital at a cost of US$1 million and it was just one of the many public works undertaken by his organisation.
On July 1 to July 3 the My Home Town hosted a beauty pageant in Choma with the top prize money of $150, 000 plus a car.
Mr Ndambo also refurbished the Police station and donated several branded vehicles.
Some local churches also benefitted from donations of Marcopolo buses.
