Siyunyi fired?

…as state withdraws

By NATION REPORTER

DIRECTOR of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Lillian Siyunyi has allegedly been dismissed from her position despite still appearing before the Judicial Complaints Commission (JCC) for gross misconduct.

However, Justice Minister Mulambo Haimbe said he was not aware that state security had been withdrawn from the DPP because she is still occupying that office with all that it entails

This came to light after the state withdrew the security detail guarding her residence immediatly after her hearing was suspended indefinitely as she requested that President Hakainde Hichilema lifts her oath of secrecy.

Mr Haimbe said that he was not aware about that move and the police were in a better position of knowing what exactly was going on.

He said that he was not aware of the changes concerning the security detail assigned to Ms Siyunyi.

“To be honest, I’m not aware of that arrangement.  Maybe the police were just trying to make some changes or they were trying to reorganise,” he said.

Mr Haimbe said the matter was a police issue and that they were in a better position of commenting on the matter because he was in the dark.

However, some police sources said the officer assigned to guard Ms Siyunyi was on Monday given orders to leave his post and was not given any reasons.

The source said that they were shocked and did not understand why the state had decided to make such a move when Ms Siyunyi was still serving as DPP.

“We were just shocked that the officer received a call to leave his post and when we inquired he said he had received orders from high command not to be at the post,” he said.
