By SILUMESI MALUMO

I HAVE moved on, I have done away with politics, former Republican President Edgar Lungu has said.

The former Head of State said he will no longer participate in active politics.

Mr Lungu said after serving in the highest office of the land, it is prudent that he now focuses on being a servant of the people.

“The Presidency is a matter of choice of how you want to package your life thereafter. Whether you want to be loud with a bang or/ and everyone will cheer for you.

But unfortunately for me in my current situation, I have come to learn that every time you do something, especially after being a politician, people want to look for politics in every activity. Therefore I have decided to be low key deliberately until people accept that I have moved on.

“I have done away with politics, I want to be a servant of the people slowly but in a highly pleasant position. I want to be the messenger of hope to the people,” he said.

Mr Lungu said “I want to go out there, to reach out to those who have and then pass on to the vulnerable.

“We are willing to learn and partner with those who have similar attitude and thoughts and support what is common, and what is common is good for all of us and what is good for all of us is common,” he said.

Mr Lungu said those who want to work with him through the Edgar Lungu Foundation should be clear that there is no politicking at all.

“I think that there is a common place where politics, he said, religion, the good will of civil society and others meet. I think that is where I want to meet my colleagues and we all agree that Edgar Lungu Foundation means well.

He said politicians, the church and anyone else should not fear, as they will not lose their influence or space in society.

“Yes count on us, we will listen to your guidance, we don’t want to fail like others have failed in the past because of being misunderstood. I think the establishment is in place and we shall focus as we are looking at our main objective.

The foundation can be perceived as actually minding my inner self in the sense that what I have lived for, what I have done in my life is now crystalising in this foundation, especially after serving at the highest level of Presidency,” Mr Lungu said.
