THE Patriotic Front (PF) has remained the people’s party and not even the coming general conference should make it to disintegrate and go into extinction, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has said.
And Mr Mwamba, popularly known as GBM has called on all the presidential candidates in the former ruling that to support whoever would be elected the torch-bearer of the PF after the general conference in March next year.
Mr Mwamba, one of the country’s business moguls has announced his return into active politics because of what the country was going through under the leadership of the United Party for National Development (UPND).
The former ruling party yesterday started receiving nominations from its members aspiring to take up the leadership of the PF and apart from Mr Mwamba, others that filed in their nominations included one surprise of Greyford Moonde, the former Itezhi-Tezhi UPND Member of Parliament.
Others were Brian Mundubilie, Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Miles Sampa, the Matero MP and Mutotwe Kafwaya, the PF Lunte legislature.
Mr Bwalya when asked if he had called off his retirement from politics said he had called off his sabbatical leave from active politics so that he could help the PF to get revived because according to him, the former ruling party was still enjoying the goodwill of the people even after losing to the UPND in the 2021 general elections.
Mr Mwamba said the PF deserved to remain relevant to the governance of the country and that he was going to work hard to ensure that Zambians who did not want to join the party should see how attractive the former ruling party was becoming after surrendering power to the UPND.
“I have just filed in my nominations for PF presidency and this is my announcement that I am back into active politics…and my message is that we must remain united.
He said his desire was to revive and unite the PF, stating that the former ruling party was so fortunate that its structures had remained intact while its members had not at any time thought of abandoning the boat but had remained loyal.
He said despite all the political tribulations the PF was going through, its membership had remained intact even after losing power and that the party was being missed by the general citizenry.
“We shall unite our brothers and sisters. Even those who never wanted to join the PF will have to come and that is why I have come back. Zambians are missing the PF and all we need to do is give them a leader who is going to inspire them,” Mr Mwamba said.
