ZESCO ‘OVERLOAD’

…says overwhelmed by local and foreign interest in coaching job

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

ZESCO United Chief Executive Officer, Charles Kalala says the club has received overwhelming responses from both local and international coaches who have expressed interest to take over as head coach following the departure of Numba Mumamba.

With only two-days remaining before Zesco nited freeze applications for the position of club head coach, Kalala said that it is not shocking that the vacant head coach position has received inundated attention from individuals who have applied for the top job.

“I can confirm that we have been inundated by the number of applications we have thus far received from both local and foreign coaches for the position of head coach,” Kalala said.

“We somehow did expect such feedback especially that Zesco United has in recent years become a household name not only in Zambia but also in other African countries. We have also built a reputation as one of the top teams in Africa,” he added.

Kalala noted that Zesco United will set up a special committee which will be expected to interview the shortlisted candidates.

“A special taskforce will be set up primarily for the purpose of interviewing and selecting the best candidate for the top job. We want to be as thorough as possible so that we get the best man for the job.”

Last week, Zesco United advertised the position of club head coach following the separation on mutual consent with Mumamba.

It is alleged that Czech Republic coach Tomas Trucha has applied to join the nine-time Zambian Super League champions as head coach. The 51-year old who served as assistant coach at Czech giants FC Viktoria Plzeñ between 2016 and 2017 also worked for South Africa’s Cape Town, Township Rollers in Botswana and AFC Leopards in Kenya.

Zesco who are being led by caretaker coach Alfred Lupiya are searching for a suitably qualified coach who is a holder of a CAF A Licence or equivalent coaching qualification.
