FAZ to unveil Grant

THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is allegedly set to unveil former Chelsea coach Avraham
“Avram” Grant as the new coach of the Zambia national soccer team.
According to sources at Football House, the former Chelsea coach who led the English club to the finals
of the Champions League in 2008 in Moscow is already in the country to begin his reign as new
Chipolopolo gaffer.
“Yes Grant is already in the country. He arrived today (yesterday) and he will be unveiled any day from
now,” said the source from FAZ.
Grant is said to have beat competition from former Chipolopolo coaches Wedson Nyirenda and Honor
Janza, the only two local coaches who were also eying the Chipolopolo top job and were named in the
top ten list of coaches who had declared interest to replace Aljosa Asanovic who resigned after a
misunderstanding with FAZ.
In 2015, Grant guided the Black Stars of Ghana to the Africa Cup of Nations final but lost on penalties to
Ivory Coast.
The Israelite who tutored Portsmouth and West Ham United in 2010 and 2011 respectively will be
expected to redeem the Chipolopolo after the struggle to qualify for the last three Africa Cup of Nations.
Grant last practiced coaching in 2018 at North East United FC where he served on interim basis for the
Indian professional football club based in Guwahati, Assam that competes in the Indian Super League.
