WE are not silent about the Barotseland issue and are working in the background to ensure that the
matter is resolved amicably, President Hakainde Hichilema has said.
President Hichilema said he did not want to deal with the matter haphazardly as was in the past which
had resulted in deaths and even arrests of several individuals.
President Hichilema said his administration had a different style of resolving vexing national challenges
such as the Barotse Agreement of 1964 and was trying to calm down tensions in the Barotse plains.
“I was in Mukobeko with some of the Barotseland activists but we do not want to go that route as the
new dawn administration,” he said.
Mr Hichilema said he did not want guns or teargas when handling the matter and that violence together
with friction was the last resort.
He said they were dealing with the matter in a civilised manner which would lead to positive results
going forward.
He said the issue was tense but the new dawn administration would everything possible to silence the
guns.
