ZAMBIA OPEN FOR BUSINESS – KASANDA

By OLIVER SAMBOKO

THE EU-Zambia Economic Forum will provide the country with an opportunity to access the EU market for its exports, says government spokesperson Chushi Kasanda.

Ms Kasanda, who is also Information and Media Minister, said the government wants to raise the investment from the EU companies in Zambia which stand at 1.6 billion Euros to not less than five billion Euros covering sectors such as energy, construction, engineering and agriculture.

She said the EU forum is a confirmation that Zambia is back and open for business and demonstrates the new dawn administration’s commitment to accelerate efforts aimed at reconstructing the economy by increasing the country’s stake and stature at the global stage as a prime destination for business and investment.

Ms Kasanda said as the country projects to increase copper production to three million tonnes per year, the EU/Zambia forum provides an important platform for the realisation of this milestone through enhanced capital investment and injection in the mining industry.

She said the EU remains an important partner for Zambia with significant import and export volumes and the government wants this enhanced.
