Mulemwa praises HH over call for unity with opposition

THE willingness by President Hakainde Hichilema to work with the opposition to enhance development is a welcome move and should be supported by all citizens, says Zambian DNA Spokesperson Spuki Mulemwa.

His comment follow President Hakainde Hichilema’s call to work with opposition political parties in delivering development to the people and growing democracy.

President Hichilema is reported to have called on the opposition to help unite the country at the consecration of the recently ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Chipata Diocese Gabriel Msipu Phiri.

Mr Mulemwa said Chipata Diocese Bishop George Lungu’s remarks that the Church will continue to supplement Government efforts to promote people’s welfare was commendable and worth noting.

He said the clergyman’s timely and wise counsel to the opposition political parties to be resilient in providing credible checks and balances to government to strengthen our democracy was encouraging.

Mr Mulemwa said co-existence between government and opposition political parties, the Church and other stakeholders should be a permanent feature as this will allow the country not only to be united but also develop.

“Most all, we hope that government’s envisaged co-existence with opposition political parties, the Church and other stakeholders will be a permanent feature, and will translate into tangible results that speaks to the ordinary Zambians’ aspirations,” Mr Mulemwa said.  He said government should convene an “indaba” where citizens from various walks of life can dialogue on how to collectively address many challenges the country was grappling with.
