UPND turning supporters into destitution

By SANFROSSA MANYINDA

United Party for National Development (UPND) Musonda Ward losing Councilor Parthias Mwelwa has lamented of being condemned to destitution and being neglected by the ruling party despite being a staunch supporter of the party.

Mr Mwelwa is regretting that he could not see the benefits of what he suffered for after being instrumental in ensuring that President Hakainde Hichilema was elected.to add to the victory of the president.

He said it was evident that the ruling party no longer needed losing candidates because the Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo was allegedly avoiding their members because according to him, there were too many UPND members to be considered for favours.

“Most of the times I feel I should have invested the money I used during the campaign period in a plot and to build my own house. Now I don’t have a house to call my own and still fighting running battles with the landlord. I regret more when my children cannot attend lessons due to non-payment of school requirements. This is not what we sacrificed for,” Mr Mwelwa said.

Mr Mwelwa recalled that when the UPND was running battles with the Patriotic Front, the number of UPND members was large and wondered why the leadership was expecting the support reduce now that the party was in power.

Mr Mwelwa has, therefore advised the Party Provincial Chairperson to treat each and every member of the party fairly whether they won in an election or not.
