CAF OFFICIALS COMING FOR EXHIBITION MATCH

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

Officials from CAF are scheduled to visit Zambia to witness the much-anticipated exhibition match involving Barcelona legends and Chipolopolo legends, says Sports Youth and Arts Minister Elvis Nkandu.

Heroes Stadium will this Thursday host the exhibition match meant to market the country’s tourism potential.

While Barcelona Legends will be led by 2005 Ballon Dor winner Ronaldinho, the Chipolopolo legends who will be coached by Kalushi Bwalya will be led by 2012 AFCON winning Captain Chris Katongo. The match which will be televised to over 50 million people in the world and has attracted interest from around the continent of Africa. According to Nkandu, the match has also attracted interest from CAF, Africa’s soccer governing body which may even be represented by its president Patrice Motsepe. “CAF officials are expected to come for the match between Barcelona legends and the Chipolopolo legends. They are not coming for CAF issues. They just want to be part of the audience,” Nkandu said.

“I expect some, if we are even lucky maybe the CAF president may come through to witness the game himself and you know what that means,” Nkandu said.

Nkandu said the game is important as it will market Zambia as a perfect destination for tourism and economic investment.

Some of the resources that will be realised from the exhibition match will go towards the development and promotion of community sport in the country.
