US$150m Kafue Bulk Water Supply Project set for commissioning

THE long awaited US$150 million   Kafue Bulk Water Supply Project (KBWSP) will in few weeks time be commissioned, Water Development and Sanitation Minister Mike Mposha disclosed to parliament yesterday.  

Mr Mposha said once commissioned, the challenge of water blues in Lusaka and surrounding areas will be a thing of the past.  

“Once the project is commissioned in a few weeks’ time, the issue of  water blues and the challenge of sanitation in Lusaka will be a thing of the past,” he said.

He was responding to Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa  who wanted to know whether Government has any plans to provide running water and flushable toilets to the residents of George, Chunga, and  Zingalume of Matero Constituency.

Mr Mposha said Kafue bulk supply project will add 50,000 cubic meters of water to the existing volume. 

He said due to the ever increasing population in Lusaka urban, the demand for water has gone up over the years. Mr Mposha said Government is committed to ensure improved water supply to all citizens and that the Kafue water project is one of such measures that will help resolve the problem.

Mr Mposha also said in order to improve sanitation, Government will provide a network of sewer lines  to allow residents   to connect to the network.

“The Lusaka sanitation project will add up 46,000 households to the existing water and sewer network.
