Lusambo warns of protests on the Copperbelt over KCM, Mopani challenges

BOWMAN Lusambo has disclosed that the people of Copperbelt are planning a peaceful protest over the failure by government to resolve the challenges at Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) and Mopani Copper Mine (MCM).
Mr Lusambo said some residents have informed him that they will not hesitate to conduct peaceful protests if President Hakainde Hichilema does not intervene by June this year.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Lusambo said people in the province were disappointed that President Hichilema had failed to address the challenges they were facing.
He said President Hichilema promised the people of the Copperbelt that the issues would be resolved but that nothing tangible had been done.
Mr Lusambo said it was unfair for the people to continue suffering despite the province being endowed with mineral resources.
“The people will not be pushed by anyone to demonstrate but they will do it because they are not happy how the New Dawn Government is handling the matter.
“President Hakainde Hichilema should do something by June so that people do not rise against him,” he said.
Mr Lusambo advised the UPND administration to act with caution when handling national issues because as it stands, their governance system is questionable.
He said people on the Copperbelt had trust in the UPND while in opposition but that the goodwill is diminishing.
Mr Lusambo said some individuals surrounding Mr Hichilema are misleading the Head of State, which will cost him.
