FAZ tips Power, Muza

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has cautioned Zambian champions Power Dynamos and FAZ Super League runners up Muza FC who will represent Zambia in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup respectively to prepare adequately for continental competitions.

And Ministry of Sports Youth and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe who watched the coronation with Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa congratulated Power for winning the Super League title.

After a 12-year long wait, Power, the Kitwe-based outfit bagged their seventh championship despite having been stunned 5-1 by Red Arrows in the final league fixture at Nkoloma Stadium on Saturday.

FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga who commended Power for winning the league said the 2022/2023 soccer season was a success despite it having produced a lot of surprises as Muza who had been promoted from the National Division One League stunned the “big fishes” to finish second.

In an interview after Power were crowned 2022/2023 FAZ Super League kings, Kamanga said there is need for the CAF envoys to prepare hard because there are a lot of challenges in CAF Club competitions.

“Our encouragement to our CAF envoys is generally to prepare hard and be ready for the roller-coaster that comes with continental representation. There is a lot of travelling, a lot of changes, a lot of injuries, intimidations and you need some level of experience and exposure at that level,” Kamanga said.

Kamanga said the association is in a harry to implement technology in the Super League which is expected to be more competitive next season.

Kamanga noted the need to raise the quality of officiating through the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) which was a huge success during the ABSA Cup final.

“There are a lot of areas we have to improve and obviously we have to raise the quality of officiating and that is why we are calling on technology and we are in a harry to implement technology, video assisted refereeing that is key for us to correct the human errors and also just to increase the number of officials getting the right qualifications to officiate at international level,” Kamanga said.

Meanwhile, Chileshe wished all the teams best of luck next season.

“We witnessed the coronation of Power Dynamos Football Club as the MTN FAZ Super League 2022/2023 Champions. Congratulations aba Yellow and we wish all teams the best in the next league calendar,” Chileshe said.
