POWER CROWNED KINGS: Nkwazi survive as Lumwana, Nchanga Rangers are relegated

Nkwazi FC have managed to survive the relegation battle after stunning Choma outfit Green Eagles 1-0 in the final game of the season played at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka.

A first half goal from Stephen Mutama gifted Nkwazi the much needed victory to survive.

Mutama stunned the Eagles goal keeper with a sublime freekick 10 minutes before the half hour mark to ensure the police sponsored Super League outfit finished on 14th  position with 39 points collected from nine wins, 12 draws and 13 defeats.

Nkwazi finished ahead of Nchanga Rangers and Lumwana Radiants who were relegated after picking a draw and defeat in their respective matches.

Nchanga Rangers were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Kabwe Warriors in their final match played at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola while Lumwana struggled against a MUZA FC side that stunned them 2-1 in Lumwana.

Goals from Sydney Kasanda and Kelvin Mwanza secured the win for the CAF Confederations Cup envoys who had nothing to lose on the final day.

Meanwhile,  Power Dynamos were crowned Champions of the FAZ Super League despite having ended the season with a 5-1 humiliating defeat to outgoing champions Red Arrows.

Power who were handed a guard of honor by the Airmen  at Nkoloma Stadium struggled the entire game and showed no character of being champions before they were crowned champions in the presence of their faithful fans who had stormed the Nkoloma Stadium pitch to celebrate.  

Striker Felix Bulaya broke the deadlock before Andy Boyeli scored his 18th  goal of the season as the league’s top scorer.

Midfielder Saddam Yusuf Phiri restored Red Arrow’s lead in the dying minutes of the first half. Arrows ran riot in the second half  with Albert Kangwanda graving a brace before Kebson Kamanga scored Arrows fifth goal five minutes before the final whistle.

The defeat could not bother the Kitwe giants as they bagged their seventh Super League title, their first since 2011.

In the other final fixtures played yesterday, NAPSA Stars came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Prison Leopards while Nkana ended the season with a 2-0 win over Kansanshi Dynamos thanks to goals from Obed Masumbuko and Jacob Ngulube.

Ndola giants Zesco United collected bragging rights after beating ABSA Cup champions Forest Rangers 1-0 in their final match of the season.

The Lusaka derby played at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka saw Green Buffaloes beating Zanaco 2-1 to end the season on a good note.
