Private sector critical to economic growth – Minister

Government values the role that the private sector plays in driving the country’s economic transformation,” Says Northern Province Minister, Leonard Mbao.

Mr. Mbao has since urged the Chamber of Commerce to take advantage of the public private dialogue forum that has been established to improve private sector participation in the economy.

He said this in a speech read by Northern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Lewis Mwape during the commemoration of the Africa Public Service Day.

He said government wants the business sector in the province to be ready for opportunities presented by the Africa Continental Free Trade Area.

Mr. Mbao said investment in the private sector would promote access to a broader market, development of micro, small and medium enterprises as well as industrialization.

He said it is for this reason that the provincial administration will continue improving the efficiency and security of its borders.

Mr. Mbao also said that the province appreciates the ongoing harmonisation of administrative and legal systems among African countries to facilitate trade and investment, including cross border trade.

And Mr. Mbao called for a public service capable of creating an environment where the province and the country can benefit from the Africa Continental Free Trade Area. – ZANIS.
