BRIAN Mundubile has described the resignation of former Auditor General Dick Sichembe as a clear indication that the UPND administration has been interfering with the running of oversight institutions.
On Wednesday, State House announced the resignation of Dr Sichembe and that President Hakainde Hichilema had, with immediate effect the resignation of Zambia’s fourth Auditor General.
But Mr. Mundubile, the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament said there were a number of corruption cases currently happening in the UPND government that had forced Dr Sichembe to resign.
Mr. Mundubile said the pace at which President Hichilema was interfering in every government system was worrying to the country’s development. He said the resignation of Dr Sichembe was a clear indication that the UPND did not want to be audited, adding that the country shall not have an objective audit report until UPND was out of power. But ruling United Party for National Development UPND deputy gecretary General Gertrude Imenda has urged opposition political parties and Zambians to stop maligning President Hichilema in the resignation of the auditor General Dr. Sichembe.
Ms. Imenda said coming from her accounts profession, she strongly believed Dr Sichembe may have resigned on ethics grounds and that speculations meant to dent the name of President Hichilema were unfair.
