PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Northern Province Youth Secretary, Chanda Nsofu, has urged government to procure a new X-ray machine for Kasama general hospital as the current one is not in good condition.
Mr Nsofu in an interview said it was worrisome that patients were being forced to travel 35 kilometers to Mungwi district to access X-ray services when government could simply procure a new machine.
He observed that many people were failing to access the X-ray services in Mungwi because of the high cost of transportation.
“It is prudent that the government take this issue seriously in order to save lives of people in the area,” he said.Mr Nsofu also said to avoid over usage of the X-ray machine at Kasama general hospital, there was urgent need to install X-ray machines at Kasama urban clinic, new town police camp clinic, location clinic and Tazara clinic to cater to the growing population in Kasama district.Meanwhile, Mr Nsofu urged government to quickly address the shortage of drugs in various health facilities in the country.
“Non-availability of medicines in hospitals is worrying because many lives will be lost and this is something which is avoidable,” he said.
