It is said that opportunity knocks many times each and every day but, in some instances, some people will be averse to grabbing hold of any new prospect because they have failed in the past. In light to this, it takes a people with a dedicated, determined mindset and vision to give hope to those that have tried job hunting but did not succeed despite their education qualifications.
Inspired by his multi-gifted elder brother in Kelly Signs, a renowned artist in the sign-writing-industry, Kelvin Mutale, has managed to cement his name in this competitive field. Proprietor and CEO at Master Piece Graphics, located in Kaunda Square of Stage One, which deals in T-shirt Printing, Branding of Vehicles, Sign Writing, and General Painting of offices and houses, Kelvin, acknowledges running his business hasn’t been easy, but it was without a doubt the best decision he ever made instead of sitting idle waiting for handouts. He said dedication, perseverance and a good marketing strategy built on trust with old and new clients is what has helped him to continue in this field.
“I started learning this trade in 1998 when I was younger, then later improved and became independent till date. There are many challenges that come with running a business. For me, challenges faced have been mostly like nowadays we are just doing it for survival as there is now a lot of competition. But one thing that keeps us moving is that customers go where they are comfortable. For example, those we have done some work for in the past have been recommending us to others everytime some asks for the kind of works we do in this field. In turn, opportunities open for more clients for us. We appreciate greatly everyone recommending us in this field and for supporting our works”
Asked what advised he had for someone wanting to join this fast growing but competitive field, Kelvin, responded, “Don’t ever let a negative past define you. Let it be a lesson that strengthens you and leads you on the right path to a positive, better and brighter future,” says the soft spoken, Kelvin, who has been running, Master Piece Graphics, for the past 13 years.
