Laura Miti canes police for taking over PF offices

By NATION REPORTER

LAURA Miti has chastised the Zambia Police for wantonly taking over the Patriotic Front (PF) secretariat, describing the behavior as not pleasing in any way at all.

Ms Miti, the Human Rights Commission (HRC) commissioner says watching the police officers surround the PF secretariat, she had an overwhelming sense of déjà vu.

Ms Miti said in her Facebook page that the behavior of the police is not pleasing in any way.

She said; “I wonder who is making the final decisions on how police protect PF events. All I can say to whoever it is, re-think of your strategy,” Ms Miti said.

The Human Rights Commission Commissioner questioned whether it was President Hakainde Hichilema, Minister of Home Affairs Jack Mwiimbu, and Inspector General of Police Graphael Musamba who were making decisions on all PF events.

Ms Miti said what is going on in the country was smelling very much like what the nation rejected in August 2021 when they elected President Hichilema.

A battalion of the Zambia Police on Sunday fired both teargas canisters and live bullets and took over the PF secretariat where they had laid ambush against former President Edgar Lungu whom they had anticipated was going to be at the premises for a media briefing.

Raphael Nakacinda, the PF secretary general disclosed that the police had been deployed at the secretariat to block former President Lungu from accessing the premises.

Several PF members of the central committee and other senior leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Brain Mundubile, Oppositiion Chief Whip Stephen Kampyongo, Bowman Lusambo, Mutotwe Kafwaya, PF national chairperson Mpnkata and Davis Mwila rushed to the secretariat where they were met with the brutal force of the Police.
