ZAMBIA and Africa as a whole have for far too long relied on foreign pharmaceutical products and the 3rd International Conference on Public Health in in Africa (CPHIA) has served as an ideal avenue to explore ways of how the country can boost its pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities, Mohammed Umar, the chief executive officer of Pharmanova Zambia has said.

Mr Umar said the CPHIA which was hosted in Zambia recently has position the country as a regional pharmaceutical manufacturing hub which has brought the country closer to achieving self-sufficiency in medicine production and fortifying the country’s healthcare resilience.
Mr Umar said in an increasingly interconnected world, it was imperative for Zambian pharmaceutical firms to forge impactful partnerships with established international entities to create opportunities uniquely nurtured for the growth of the pharmaceutical industry in Zambia.
He said the pharmaceutical manufacturing partnerships were pivotal, not only for economic growth but also for generating employment opportunities, especially with rise of an educated youth population entering into the job market as a result of the free education government has been providing.

The CPHIA 2023 served as an ideal avenue to explore ways to boost our manufacturing capabilities, positioning Zambia as a regional pharmaceutical manufacturing hub. This success takes us closer to achieving self-sufficiency in medicine production and fortifying our nation’s healthcare resilience.”
