Chabinga’s summons shouldn’t be a mockery of justice – Mukandila

By NATION REPORER

CELESTINE Mukandila, the lawyer who reported Robert Chabinga to the police for threatening violence and aggravated robbery against the Patriotic Front (PF) senior leadership has said the summoning of the excommunicated Mafinga Member of Parliament should not be turned into a mockery of justice should culminate into prosecution so that justice should prevail.
Mr Mukandila says the summoning of Mr Chabinga, whose leaked audio last week implicated President Hakainde Hichilema as having assigned him to travel to South Africa to bribe judges handling the case in which the Zambian government has sued the family of late former President Edgar Lungu is a litmus test of professionalism of the Zambia Police Service.
Speaking in an interview last evening from Dubai, Mr Mukandila said it was important that people waited for police action and hoped that justice would be meted against Chabinga for his violent threats against PF leadership.
Mr Mukandila is one of the complainants against Mr Chabinga, the expelled PF Mafinga MP who has been parading himself as the PF president.
“Honestly speaking, and without any biasness, I hope to see justice. We are not being political but merely trying to protect the Republic of Zambia and our democracy,” he said.
Mr Mukandila urged those interested in the Robert Chabinga saga to “wait and see” until the truth came out.
Last evening Mr Chabinga posted on his social media platform that he had been summoned by police.
“I wish to inform members of the public and the press that I, Honorable Robert Chabinga, Member of Parliament for Mafinga Constituency and Acting President of the Patriotic Front, will appear before the Zambia Police Service at Police Headquarters, tomorrow, July 31, 2025 at 10:00hrs, in response to an official inquiry,” he wrote.
Mr Chabinga said his summoning was in connection with “threats against Dr Sishuwa Sishuwa and Emmanuel Mwamba.”
He said the summoning followed a formal report lodged on July 22, 2025, by Mulenga Fube, Member of Parliament for Chilubi Constituency alleging that he had proposed violence by issuing threats at Mr Mwamba and former university of Zambia lecturer Dr Sishuwa.
“The Zambia Police Service opened an inquiry file and summoned I, Hon. Chabinga to assist with investigations into the matter. As a leader I would like to reiterate my commitment to cooperating fully with law enforcement and upholding democratic principles.
