WE CAN WIN CHAN

ZAMBIA has the full potential to win the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), which kicks off on August 2 across Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, says Youth, Sport and Arts Minister Elvis Nkandu.
In an interview, Nkandu expressed confidence in the local Chipolopolo squad, urging them to approach the tournament with determination and belief.
“I have no doubt that our boys have what it takes to go all the way. They must not go there as mere participants, but as serious contenders. Zambia can win CHAN,” said Nkandu.
He drew inspiration from the recent performance of the Copper Queens, who reached the quarterfinals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, encouraging the Chipolopolo to push even further.
“The Copper Queens showed that with hard work and belief, we can compete with the best. Now, it’s time for the Chipolopolo to also rise and make the nation proud. They must go and fight, not just to participate, but to bring that trophy home,” he said.
Nkandu pledged Government’s full backing of the team, stating that no effort would be spared to support the squad.
“The government will provide everything the team needs to succeed. We are committed to ensuring that the players are motivated, equipped and ready to deliver results. Winning this tournament is a national priority,” he said.
Nkandu called on all Zambians to rally behind the team during the championship.
“This is not just a team – it is our national pride. I urge all soccer fans and Zambians at large to support the boys, whether at home or in the diaspora. Your support matters,” Nkandu said.
Zambia will be aiming to win their first CHAN title since the tournament’s inception, with the last notable performance being a third-place finish in 2009.
