K3m Black  Mountain money splits UPND in Chililabombwe

WRANGLES have erupted in the ruling UPND in Chililabombwe over the alleged misappropriation of more than K3 million, which was given to the district from the Black Mountain operations with some youths calling for the suspension of the district and constituency officials who are alleged to be the suspects

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba said from the time Elisha Matambo, the provincial minister announced that Chililabombwe had been given K3, 068, 000 from the Black Mountain operations, there has been too much hate speech among the UPND members in Chililabombwe especially the youth.

Mr Mweemba said the UPND members in Chililabombwe, particularly youths were demanding for the committee responsible for the same money to explain and give a break down on how such a huge amount of money was used.

“From 19th January, 2023 when the revelation was made by the UPND Copperbelt Provincial Chairman, Elisha Matambo when he addressed a meeting in Chililabombwe that K3, 068, 000 was given to Chililabombwe from Black mountain operations, there has been too much hate speech among the UPND party members in the district especially the youths.”

Mr Mweemba said unconfirmed intelligence information received revealed that on Tuesday, 24th of January, 2023, the petition to have the suspected leaders suspended was submitted to the office of UPND Provincial Chairman

The UPND leaders standing accused of having misappropriated the funds included Chililabombwe District Chairman Timothy Musonda,  Mr. Lottson Mando, Deputy District Chairman, Ms. Chamalama, District Chair lady, Mr. Munganja, District Treasurer, Mr. Derick Samutondo, District Youth Chairman,

Others standing accused were Mr. Rasford Kunda, Chililabombwe Constituency Chairman, Ms. Masuwa, Constituency Chairlady and Mr. Martin Sakuwaha, Constituency Youth Chairman, among others

“The Police also received intelligence information indicating that the UPND Copperbelt Provincial vice chairman for administration, Mr. Kolala Akubangwa visited Chililabombwe district to hold a secret in- door meeting at UPND offices, at house number 18 Mungu Walk in Kamenza Township to discuss and have a break down on how the black mountain money was spent.”

“They only invited the UPND Chililabombwe district mother body and Constituency mother body executive committees to attend this meeting, leaving out other committees like the youths to avoid arguments and misunderstandings. We will continue monitoring the unfolding of events on this issue and report to your office accordingly,’’ Mr Mweemba said
