DECLARES DOLIKA BANDA

By NATION REPORTER

FORMER ZCCM-IH chairperson Dolika Banda has revealed that she resigned from her position because she refused to be used as a pawn by politicians and has now declared her interest to run for president in the 2026 general election.
Ms. Banda, who boasts more than three decades of experience in development finance, governance, and investment, said Zambia was at a “defining moment” and could no longer afford leadership driven by personal ambition and empty promises.
“I resigned from my position as Chairperson of ZCCM-IH because I refused to be a pawn of political interference. I chose principle over position then, and I will continue to choose principle over politics now,” she said.
She stated that her decision to contest the presidency was born out of conviction and a desire to bring integrity, accountability, and service to public office.
“Leadership is not about occupying office, it is about delivering change that is felt in the lives of ordinary citizens. Our people deserve jobs, affordable healthcare, quality education, food security, and dignity. Integrity is non-negotiable,” Ms. Banda said.
The former development finance executive, who has served at the International Finance Corporation, the African Development Bank, and CDC Group, said her global experience had taught her that Zambia’s potential could only be unlocked through honest and disciplined leadership.
She also underscored the importance of inclusive governance, stressing that women were not just “an asset class to be managed” but key players in national development.
“My commitment is to build a Zambia that values the contribution of every citizen, regardless of gender, background, or status, while pursuing development that is both equitable and sustainable for future generations,” Ms. Banda said.
She added that the country’s abundant resources, talent, and youthful population needed leadership that could transform promise into prosperity.
“I am ready to lead, not for myself, but for the generations that will come after us. The time for serious, selfless leadership is now,” Ms. Banda declared.
Her announcement sets the stage for a high-stakes political battle as she becomes one of the first prominent figures to openly declare her presidential ambitions against President Hakainde Hichilema in next year’s polls.
