OPPOSITION United Party for National Development (UPND) former Bweengwa Member of Parliament Highvie Hamududu has been replaced as a surety for UPND vice-president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) in a case in which he is charged with threatening violence against the Republican President, when he allegedly said he would go for President Edgar Lungu’s throat.
State prosecutor, Mr Sakala, informed Lusaka Magistrate Thandose Chabala that Mr Hamududu could no longer be a surety for Mwamba because records show that he was an MP when he had in fact relinquished the position.
The defence told the court that they had no objection over the State’s application for the replacement of a surety, adding that they would avail the new surety by end of the day.
Mr Hamududu has since been replaced by Mr Douglas Siakalima after the State made an application to replace him as surety on grounds that he was no longer a Member of Parliament.
This came to light after Mwamba, accompanied by UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and other party officials, appeared for mention.
Mr Hamududu was left out on the UPND’s adoptions in the just ended elections.
In this case, Mwamba is charged with one count of proposing violence when he allegedly uttered words on March 2, 2016, that he would go for President Lungu’s throat.
Mr Mwamba is being represented by Jack Mwimbu, Martha Mushipe, Keith Mweemba, Marshal Muchende and Paul Katupisha.
The matter comes up on January 9, 2017, for commencement of trial.
