MOPANI Copper Mines Plc has expressed happiness for hosting the prestigious 2017 Zambia Open golf tournament for the third time since 2014 in the history of Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe.

The mining firm’s chief executive officer Johan Jansen said Mopani, with Redpath Mining, have shown their commitment in developing the sport of golf in Zambia by bringing together renowned sportsmen around the world to showcase professional golf.

This will also accord the locals players an opportunity to be exposed to international golf.

Jansen said the Mopani/Redpath Zambia 2017 Zambia Open has contributed significantly to raising the profile of the country’s business community and enabling the City of Kitwe to host the event which has attracted various talented golfers across the globe.

He said Redpath Mining, which are the co-sponsors of the event, will bring smiles on the faces of the golfers who will emerge winners at the on-going tournament in various categories as well as motivating the local golfers for the development of the sport.

Jansen said that Mopani has invested massively at Nkana Golf Club by making it the best golf course in the country and in the Southern African region.

The MCM CEO said the mining firm’s involvement in sports development stretches beyond golf because the mining house also supports rugby, football, tennis and other sporting disciplines in the country.

Jansen has commended all the business partners in the country and beyond for ensuring that the 2017 Zambia Open was successfully hosted.

He said the sport of golf plays an important role in the development of the country because it contributes positively to the keeping of the population healthy and productive.

Jansen said  Mopani has over the year’s been working in collaboration with the Nkana Golf Club junior golf academy which is committed in nurturing children from under- privileged families interested in learning the sport of golf at an early age.
