GOVERNMENT is scouting for over US$150 million to construct infrastructure development at the Kalungwishi farm project in Mporokoso whose feasibility studies have been finalised, says Finance, Minister Felix Mutati.

And Mr. Mutati has announced that Government is in the process of creating an anchor farm at Mwange Youth Centre in Mporokoso at a cost of over K1.2 million.

Mr. Mutati said Government would soon be signing the initial agreement for the commencement of the project.

“Rankin Engineering has just finished the feasibility studies on the establishment of the Kalungwishi farm project. This project will among other things support out-grower schemes and promote livestock production in this region,” he said.

Mr. Mutati explained that the farm project would comprise both the private sector and Government support

“This is part of the infrastructure development that are being run by the government. What has happened historically is that when we deal with farm blocks, we have not developed a masterplan so we will undertake a comprehensive masterplan that will develop Kalungwishi,

“Kalungwishi may need somewhere around US$150 million within 2018 to begin sensible development for infrastructure development,” he said.

He explained that Government would by 2018 put up infrastructure such as roads and dams at the farm block through various ministries.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mutati said the Mwange youth centre in Mporokoso would include activities such as poultry farming, vegetable growing and capacity building for the youth in various skills.

“This project at Mwange will in turn result in employment creation for the youth in Northern Province and Zambia in general,” he said.

He emphasised that these projects were some of the developments that Government was carrying out in Northern Province which would soon spread to other parts of the country.
