FISH in Kifubwa River in North Western Province is dying following an accident that resulted in an acid spillage.
The accident happened yesterday around 07:00 hours at Kifubwa Bridge along the Solwezi-Chingola road about 10 kilometres from Solwezi.
North Western Province Commissioner of Police Auxensio Daka said the accident occurred when Adrias Banda aged 37 of Chifubu compound in Ndola who was driving a Volvo tanker registration number ACZ 8934 with sulphuric acid on it lost control and hit into the bridge.
“And due to the impact and damage of the tanker, it caused a spillage on the road and consequently that went into the river,” Mr Daka said.
He said in the process fish is dying and people on the downstream are catching the fish and that the driver sustained general body pains.
Mr Daka said though the driver is admitted at Solwezi General Hospital, he will be charged with dangerous driving contrary to Article 155 of the Road Traffic Act.
Meanwhile, a young boy identified as Edward Mutenta of Manyama area died on the spot after being hit by a speeding vehicle.
Mr Daka said the accident happened yesterday around 19:00 hours at Manyama area and involved Mr Dick Mbimbi, aged 48, who was driving a Ford Ranger while the victim was trying to cross the road.
“The body of the accident victim has been deposited into Lumwana District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem while the driver is in police custody,” Mr Daka said.
