CORNELIUS Mweetwa must be taught a bitter lesson by the electorate by not voting for him in the August polls for trying to make fools of the people through a gimmick designed to portray him as most favoured candidate, the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has said.
Inside sources revealed that Mr Mweetwa sponsored a group of youths to demand that he rescinds his decision not to re-contest the Choma Central parliamentary seat in the August 12 elections to create a picture that he was the most wanted candidate.
YALI president Andrew Ntewewe however said Mr Mweetwa was undermining the calibre of electorates in Choma by thinking they could be hoodwinked by simple gimmicks.
Mr. Ntewewe said it was an insult for Mr Mweetwa to insinuate that he was the only worthy candidate to represent the people of Choma in parliament.
He called on Choma residents to teach Mr Mweetwa a bitter lesson by not voting for him in the upcoming elections. Controversy has emerged after Mr Mweetwa’s gimmick to portray himself as the most popular candidate was exposed.
On Sunday, Mr Mweetwa announced that he would not re-contest the Choma seat which he had held for the past two decades on the pretext that he wanted to concentrate on taking UPND president Hakainde Hichilema to State House.
But speaking at a media briefing on Monday, Mr Mweetwa rescinded his decision, claiming that after the announcement on Sunday, he had received a lot of criticism and misinformation, alleging that he had been bought by the ruling Patriotic Front.
