THIS year’s general elections are about protecting national assets from being auctioned by selfish individuals who have already struck deals with foreign entities, the Democracy and Motherland Defenders Coalition (DMDC) has said

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, DMDC spokesperson Andrew Ntewewe said the coalition had credible information that some individuals plan to auction some national assets like mines to foreign interests.

“We shall at an opportune time disclose a cartel set to auction national assets to foreign interests,” Mr Ntewewe said.

“We are aware that there is a cartel which has made agreements to take back KCM, Mopani into foreign interests and it is therefore very important that as we go to the polls in August, we must take note this vote is about protecting our country’s resources,” Mr Ntewewe said.

Mr Ntewewe however said the coalition shall at a given time disclose people behind the cartel so that they can be judged by the Zambians.

He also warned that Zambia was not for sale, adding that it was unfortunate that some individuals were focused on auctioning national assets.

“Foreign colleagues who are feeding from the poisoned chalice of this clique who wish to sell our assets should be warned that Zambia is not for sale to the highest bidder,” Mr Ntewewe added.

He also said individuals who would be found guilty of privatising national assets should face the full wrath of the law and be held accountable for their actions.

Meanwhile, Mr Ntewewe said the coalition had continued to monitor activities ahead of the elections.

He appealed to political parties to be mindful of the corona virus pandemic as they go about their campaigns to avoid spreading the deadly disease.
