Chief Kazembe, councillors pledge to work with UPND to develop Lumezi
Chief Kazembe of the Chewa people in Lumezi district has pledged unwavering support to President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership and the United Party for National Development (UPND) Alliance’s stance to uphold unity in the country.
His Royal Highness says he remains committed to ensuring that a productive collaboration exists between the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) and the thrown for the betterment of his subjects.
ZANIS reports that the traditional leader was speaking after he joined his counterpart ChieftainessMwasemphangwe, in taking oath of acceptance of office as elected representatives of traditional leadership to sit in the Lumezi Town Council as councillors.
“As royal highnesses it is important to work with the government of the day if we want to see development, so we will continue to support and work with President Hakainde Hichilema in a coordinated manner to develop our chiefdoms,” he said.
The Chief has urged traditional leaders in the district to respect the democratic right of the Zambia people which was exhibited during this year’s August 12th, general elections.
“We all need to come on board and coordinate with the President, let us move forward in unity and respect one another including the people who voted for our leaders,” said Chief Kazembe.
And newly elected Council Chairperson Oliver Mwale from the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) party including 11 Councillors also took oath of acceptance of office before Lundazi District Resident Magistrate Joseph Kapila.
Mr Mwale has promised to support President Hichilema and the UPND’s developmental agenda as he takes office at the local authority.
“I would like to assure President Hakainde Hichilema of my unwavering support and encourage everyone to work hard as this is the time to raise standards of our working culture to enhance development,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chamtowa ward Councillor Davis Mwanza has called for swift rehabilitation of roads in order to stimulate economic fortunes for people of Lumezi district.
Councillor Mwanza, a sole entrant at Lumezi Town Council from the UPND, notes that access to clean water remains a concern in the area, a situation he intends to reverse in the coming five years.
“The people of Chamtowa are farmers but they are lacking good roads to transport their produce properly, we also want to change the situation of inadequate and clean water sources in the area,” he said.
He has called upon the newly elected Council Chairperson and majority Councillors from the opposition (PF) to be professional and collaborate with the UPND in developing Lumezi.
“Lumezi being a new district requires a lot of focus on development, hence I can only wish that my colleagues from the opposition will cooperate with us, as the only councillor from the ruling party to be part of business in Lumezi council chambers I expect to work with them well,” he said.

Meanwhile, magistrate Joseph Kapila reminded the newly sworn-in civic leaders to be selfless in executing their duties.
“As you have stated in your oaths, the interest and welfare of the people you are to serve should come foremost,” he said.
And in congratulating the elected leaders, Magistrate Kapila also encouraged councillors to execute all duties before them with diligence as the status they have attained represents the confidence of the people who voted them into office. -ZANIS
