PF MP, UPND councillors partner

CHIMWEMWE Member of Parliament (MP) Allen Banda and seven councillors including four from the ruling UPND have resolved to work beyond their political affiliations in serving the interests of the people.
The constituency has seven councillors, out of which, four are UPND, two are PF while one is an independent councillor.
Mr Banda said in Kitwe yesterday that he had a successful meeting with all the councillors and resolved to work beyond political affiliations in order provide effective services to the people in the constituency.
“I would like to inform you that I held a successful meeting with all the seven councilors in Chimwemwe constituency to officially introduce ourselves and discuss various issues affecting the Constituency.
“During our meeting, I emphasised the importance of working together as a team, despite our different party affiliations, now that campaigns are over. We resolved to work together for the benefit of people of Chimwemwe constituency and the respective wards,” Mr Banda said.
Mr Banda said councillors and himself reminded each other that the people of Chimwemwe expected service delivery based on the promises which were made during campaigns and that this could only be achieved through teamwork.
“The councillors also shared the challenges in their wards especially those that require our immediate attention. As elected leaders, our desire should be people’s interest above our own political interest hence the need for us to work in unison in order to meet the people’s expectations,” he said.
Last week, Mr Banda gave an update on the construction of the temporary footbridge connecting East of Chimwemwe and Kwacha township where the safety of the children and others members of the public have been at risk especially after two children were attacked by crocodiles
He said engineers were on the ground to assess and make recommendations on the possibilities of putting up a temporary footbridge as he was he engaged the Roads Development Agency (RDA) ,the Kitwe City Council and other stakeholders on the need to put up a permanent bridge.
He also said more than 400 households in Salamano area of Chimwemwe constituency will be connected to the national grid in the next two months following the signing of a K2.2 million contract between the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) and RETRO international Zambia
