DESPITE being affected in revenue collection due to the Covid-19, the Livingstone City Council has committed itself to offering quality service delivery.
This is through the Ward Development Funds (WDF) which would be disburses to all the 17 wards in the district.
For Freedom Ward in Dambwa North and Airport area, the K70,000 WDF was channelled towards the rehabilitation of main roads and clearing of drainages.
Livingstone Mayor, Eugene Mapuwo, said the local authority would ensure quality services were delivered to the people despite the negative effects of the pandemic on council revenue.
Mr Mapuwo said the council would continue to provide services based on the urgency and needs of affected areas.
He was speaking during the grading and compacting of one of the most negatively affected roads in Dambwa North.
“We are here to provide services. We know that this Kwenda Road is a busy road, this is why we had to mobilise resources and move on site to ensure that motorists are able to drive safely and comfortable,” Mr Mapuwo said.
The mayor said the local authority had drawn up a programme of working on the most damaged roads in all the 17 wards.
And Freedom ward councillor, Owen Muteba, stated that Dambwa North has had a challenge of roads as they were usually washed away during the rainy season.
Mr Muteba said that the rehabilitation project was a fulfilment of the promise that was made earlier this year after some roads were washed away.
One of the residents expressed happiness that the local authority was rehabilitating the damaged roads.
Carol Mufuzi, who is the head teacher for Livingstone Day Primary School said: “We are happy that the roads are being worked on because they were damaged by the rain and they were impassable but at least we are able to drive through without challenges.”
