Social Media has gone in a frenzy, buzzing over the above topic.Does it mean that when subsidies are at play, prices of subsidized commodities will be kept constant over time? What is the essence of having subsidies when the health Sector is battling with the cancer of not having medical drugs? What sense is in having an overflow in the number of eligible children not having access to Education due to vulnerability in the name of maintaining redundant subsidies which are also consumed and enjoyed by capitalistic foreigners?
It is wise to increase CDF from k1.6 million to k25.7 million with the condition of scrapping off subsidies because you and I can attest to the fact that k1.6 million is way too low to actualize development in our constituencies which have different geographical space and challenges.
The opportunity cost of foregoing subsidies for sustainable development and building a strong and resilient economy is worth it.
We need to recruit 30,000 teachers, 11,200 health professionals, free Education has to be brought to our door steps so that our children can board the vehicle of free education. Increasing the health budget by over k4 billion means discarding subsidies and so is increasing the University budget by over k1 billion.
Colleagues let us not be rumour mongers, let us improve our art of research and dive deeper into the benefits of foregoing subsidies then we weigh to establish which of the two decisions carries more gravity in terms of benefits to our people. Some politicians just want to gain political mileage at the expense of exeggeratting issues.
They are false politicians just like some false Prophets who will go to any extent of perpetuating lies and twisting information for their own interest, not that of society.
