GOVERNMENT GETS KUDOS FOR PLANS TO UNBUNDLE ZESCO
THE proposed restructuring of ZESCO by unbundling the institution has been welcomed by opposition NEW Heritage Party .
Party president Chishala Kateka has welcomed the move by the New Dawn Government and said the restructuring of the institution was long overdue.
She said ZESCO had for a long time been faced with political interference and the use of the institution for funding political activities.
Ms Kateka said the institution was faced with serious financial woes and inefficiencies that could not be addressed without restructuring.
She said the more serious issue was the fact that ZESCO had proved to be a bottleneck to the growth of the energy sector in Zambia.
Ms Kateka said the company had been the recipient of all off-take agreements from private sector power generating companies.
She said ZESCO’s financial situation had also meant that it had not been able to adequately meet required expansion in this sector, resulting in inadequate power for the nation as well as the regional market. – MILLENNIUM TV
