The escalating mine row in Kafue has caught the attention of the government with Mines Minister planning a courtesy call on Chieftainess and to ease the hostility between mine owners and royal family members.
Mines minister Paul Kabuswe has said there is need for him to pay a courtesy call on senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya so that they discuss the issue of the mining row emanating in her chiefdom,
Mr Kabuswe in an interview said there was need to meet her royal highness so that an amicable solution could be found concerning a mining row involving two of her daughters.
Two of the Chieftainess’ daughters, Mervis and Choolwe have been embroiled in a row with a consortium of mining firms who claim of being victimized by the two whose firm Chatupalesa allegedly wants to take over the area despite only having an exploration license.
“For me the only way forward is to sit down with her royal highness so that we can see how best we can deal with this matter because if left unchecked can lead to something else,” Mr Kabuswe said.
He said that he could not say much about the matter until he conferred with the royal highness.
A number of mining firms have called on the government to come to their as they are allegedly being victimized despite having legal documents to support their claims.
They said a number of their trucks had been impounded at the instructions of the two princesses while other companies have been exiled from mining in Kafue’s Kanyele area which falls under her jurisdiction.
The miners have since sued the two sisters for allegedly interfering in their mine.’
