THE snub of Inonge Mutukwa Wina in the King Lewanika Meritocracy award is heartbreaking and an indication that the selection process was based on political lines, Zambia Republican Party president, Wright Musoma, has said.
Mr Musoma in an interview, said it was shocking that the first duly elected female Vice President was omitted on the list which comprised women trailblazers who had contributed greatly in various fields.
He however wondered what criteria was used because Ms Wina was not just the first female Vice President but also was once married to a great son of the soil in the name of Arthur Wina who was a great freedom fighter.
“It’s mind boggling because if you look at Ms Wina, her credentials surpass some of the women who have been awarded but she was not considered for this prestigious award,” he said.
Mr Musoma said it was laughable that Ms Wina was left out and called on the organisers to give credit where it was due and not involve politics.
He said that he suspected the reason Ms Wina was omitted was because she was from the previous regime and that most of them were from the ruling government.
“Most Zambians are shocked with the omission of her honour, Ms Wina, who by far is a better candidate than all the recipients because her contributions to mother Zambia are far greater,” he said.
Thirteen influential women have been awarded who include Dr Mutumba Mainga Bull, Nelly Mutti, the current Speaker, Dr Inonge Mbikusita-Lewanika, lawyer Frances Mwangala Zaloumis, Ireen Muyenga, Janet Kayama, Ndiyoyi Mutiti, Mbangu Katowa, Zanaco Managing Director Mukwandi Chibesakunda, former Police Inspector General Stella Libongani, Mirriam Mutelo, Princess Nakatindi Nganga and Kapelwa Mwanangumbi.
