The FNB Kopala 10Km which is expected to attract over 2, 500 runners and will boast an impressive prize purse to the value of K100, 000 in its maiden year.

Speaking during the launch in Lusaka, Nkandu said; “Government realises the importance of collaboration in sports development to develop the sport sector. This is why we welcome FNB Zambia’s initiative and look forward to working with the bank and other partners on making Kopala and Zambia at large a healthy nation.”

Nkandu said FNB’s partnership in organising the marathon showcases its dedication to fostering a spirit of unity and competition among citizens.

And FNB Zambia Chief Executive Officer, Bydon Longwe said the K100, 000 prize purse invested in the marathon is an added incentive for runners to train hard and give their all on event day.

Longwe said the top ten finishers in the Open Men’s and Women’s categories will secure their share in prize money.

The men’s and women’s winners will each take home K10. 000. The runners up will receive K7, 000 and third place finishers K5, 000 each.

“At FNB, we are committed to championing health and wellness and would like to encourage all Kitwe residents, the rest of the Copperbelt and Zambia at large, our customers and employees to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle,” Longwe said.

“We are particularly pleased that this run will be inclusive with children as young as nine years old being able to participate and get a finisher’s medal.

We are also pleased to announce Trade Kings and Garden Court Hotel as our partners as we collaborate to host the Copperbelt’s biggest wellness event,” Longwe said.

Meanwhile, Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo said the marathon will bring together the whole of the Copperbelt in championing wellness.
